The Golden Year march was commissioned by the Cape Girardeau, MO, Municipal
Band for the observance of the fiftieth anniversary of the Missouri State Band
Law. This law gave communities in Missouri the right to enact a tax to support
a community band.
The Cape Girardeau Municipal Band, a professional band of fifty musicians,
presents a twelve week summer concert series in the park. It has been sponsored
by the city of Cape Girardeau for sixty-three years.
The golden Year was first performed by the Municipal Band on July 27, 1977.
